The Institute for Energy Research (IER)—a non-profit public policy institute—filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit in the federal district court for the District of Columbia against the U.S. Department of the Treasury. IER sought to compel a response to a May 31, 2018 request for certain correspondence sent over a period of time in 2017 and 2018 to or from the Director of the Office of Environment and Energy in the Department of the Treasury. The FOIA request sought correspondence that included the terms “Bloomberg task force,” “G20,” “G-20,” “TCFD,” “Task Force on Climate-Related Disclosures,” “climate risk disclosure,” or “climate financial disclosures.”
