Our Children’s Trust, an environmental group, filed a lawsuit in Kansas claiming that the state had an obligation to help prevent climate change and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions under the public trust doctrine. The group had filed a series of lawsuits and petitions in several states, requesting that the environmental agencies in these states adopt rules to reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels pursuant to the public trust doctrine.
