Complaint filed.
Three environmental organizations filed a lawsuit in federal district court in Oregon challenging the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) approval of the Last Chance Forest Management Project and the associated environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The plaintiffs alleged that in authorizing the project, which included a timber sale, BLM violated the Federal Land Policy and Management Act because the project was inconsistent with the applicable Resource Management Plan. They also alleged that BLM violated NEPA by failing to take a hard look at and disclose the project’s impacts, including impacts on carbon storage.
