Conservation group sought protection for the American pika, a small member of the rabbit family, under the federal Endangered Species Act. The lawsuit against the Fish and Wildlife Service alleged that the federal agency did not issue a timely finding on the group's petition to list the pika as a "threatened" species under the federal Act. The complaint alleged that global warming had "already extracted a heavy toll" on the pika.
