Complaint filed.
Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) filed a lawsuit asserting that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed to issue an initial determination within 90 days on CBD’s petition to list the Olympic marmot under the Endangered Species Act. CBD submitted its petition in May 2024. The complaint alleged that the marmot is primarily at risk from changes to its habitat, including changes to mountaintop ecosystems resulting from climate change. CBD asked the court to order FWS to issue the initial determination by a date certain.
